Join local Naturalist Carol Mundy for this family-friendly spring walkabout to look for nature’s hidden treasures found on or near the forest floor. On this walk, we slow down to focus our attention on the small and amazing bits of nature. Noticing Nature: Plant Prints

Monday, May 6

1PM – 3PM

Connect with nature and each other in this free program for people living with dementia and their caregivers. Offered in partnership with the Giving Voice Foundation, Noticing Nature provides an opportunity for relaxation and creativity, using nature as the guide. We’ll take a slow stroll outdoors to awaken our senses. As we go, we’ll collect natural items of interest, like leaves and flowers. Then, artist Stephanie Rae Berrie will lead us in making colorful monoprints using the objects we find.

This program is for people living with dementia and their caregivers. All activities will be ADA accessible, and experienced staff and volunteers will be on hand to guide participants.

Adult Workshop: Harness the Colors of Nature through Watercolor

Starting with a review of basic color mixing, we will work from still lives of fresh flowers and plants found at Pyramid Hill, focusing on interesting compositions. We’ll warm up with preliminary sketches and quick color studies. Our ultimate goal will be to gain confidence with watercolors, helping you to create watercolor works as individual and dynamic as you! Beginners, pros, and all levels in between are welcome.

Nature/Nurture: Forest Bathing

Sunday, May 19

1PM – 3PM

Calm your mind and body with a forest bathing session at Pyramid Hill! Forest Bathing, or Shinrin-Yoku (“Bathing in the Healing Elements of the Forest”) is an evidence-based practice from Japan that quiets the mind by gently re-awakening our five senses - sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. The session involves a slow guided walk, a sequence of soothing, nature-based readings, moments of stillness, and poetry that will be led by Pam Lowe Cho, ANFT-Certified Forest Therapy Guide. You don’t want to miss this unique opportunity to reap the rewards of reconnecting with the serenity of nature.

Nature/Nurture series was sponsored by the Photography Club of Greater Cincinnati.
