Art & Earth Day Presented by Synchrony
Saturday, April 25

Celebrate Earth Day, Arbor Day, and International Sculpture Day with Pyramid Hill and our partners. Enjoy free park admission and all-day programming.

Workshop: Watercolor Journaling
Saturday, May 2

10AM – 12:30PM

​

Whether you’re exploring your own backyard, a national park, or another country, learn to document your travels with beautiful watercolor paintings by practicing with Pyramid Hill's picturesque landscape. From Poland to Crete, discover how Cynthia Kukla has created watercolor mementos at our hands-on workshop.  Get a painting tutorial, tips for crafting travel watercolor kits, and learn how to work comfortably on location and in nature.

Wellness Series: Forest Bathing with Pam Lowe Cho
Saturday, May 2

1PM – 2:30PM

​

Forest bathing is the Japanese practice of “Bathing in the Healing Elements of the Forest”. This guided experience is an invitation to slow down and awaken the senses, allowing you to quietly take in nature’s gifts. Forest Bathing follows a standard sequence including slow, attentive walking, guided sensory experiences, individual reflection, closing with tea made with foraged ingredients, and optional group sharing.

Workshop: Tea Blending with Native Plants
Saturday, May 9

10AM – 11:30AM

​

Experiment with dried herbs, fruits, and flowers to create a custom tea blend with Cass Ruhlman, owner of Antiquity Teahouse. Cass will teach participants about the health benefits of each ingredient, suggest seasonal pairings, and explore tea blends native to Ohio. Leave the workshop with your own customized tea blend to enjoy at home.

Workshop: The Magic of Natural Inks
Saturday, May 9

1PM – 3:30PM

​

Experience the merging of nature and art as you create ink from plants, berries, and other natural resources. Jenn Acus-Smith demonstrates how to transform nature’s resources into a usable art material to create ink, receive tips on foraging, and explore how to alter color. Practice with the inks you create and leave the workshop with a bottle or two to continue painting with at home.

Robert McCloskey: Season of Wonder Exhibition Reception
Friday, May 15

5:30PM – 7:30PM

​

This exhibition is the second year of our partnership with the McCloskey Wonder Works Museum through the Butler County Historical Society. The show features illustrations from McCloskey’s masterpiece, Time of Wonder (1957), on loan from the May Massee Collection at Emporia State University, KS. These vibrant illustrations from the Caldecott winning book tell the story of nature, weather, and wonder as a family explores an island in Maine. Also included are illustrations by Claire Keane from Angela Burke Kunkel’s Make Way, as well as maquettes by sculptor Nancy Schon that capture McCloskey’s illustrated characters in three dimensions.

Ink & Drink: Lino Cuts and Long Islands
Friday, May 22

6PM – 8PM

​

Join us for an evening of printmaking and delicious cocktails. Artist Stephanie Rae Berrie will display some of her unique floral fabric prints, and you can craft your own print to take home. Participate directly in the printing process and learn a little about how relief prints are created. Enjoy a specialty cocktail or choose from a selection of hard and soft beverages at the bar. One of the perks of being a park member is one free specialty cocktail per household to enjoy.

Wellness Series: Collaborative and Communal Dance Making
Saturday, May 30

1PM – 3PM

Join instructor and educator, Teresa VanDenend Sorge in the spacious beauty of Pyramid Hill for a program on collaborative dance making. Participants will be guided through movement tasks to explore dance and self expression through concepts of time, energy, space, and movement.

Plein Art at the Park

Friday, June 12

10AM – 2PM

Included in general park admission; registration recommended

Regional artists will scatter throughout our park grounds to create original art of Pyramid Hill's landscapes. Freely roam and visit with the artists as they showcase their talents. Join our education team at the pavilion try your hand at painting or drawing and learn about atmospheric perspective technique.

​

Following, stick around for a happy hour reception for participating artists from 6PM – 8PM.

Plein Air Art in the Park

Join us for a casual reception for artists participating in the Plein Air Art showcase. View works created throughout the day inspired by Pyramid Hill’s park grounds, and try your hand at painting. Enjoy specialty cocktails, beer, seltzers, and more at the cash bar.

Sound Meditation

Immerse yourself in a 90-minute sound journey held under the serene beauty of the Pyramid House skylight, and surrounded by the history of antiquities. Refresh your mind, body, and spirit with the resonant tones of crystal singing bowls, gongs, and other sound instruments. This immersive journey is designed to calm the nervous system, reset your energy, and create space for inner stillness and reflection.

Workshop: Stained Glass Cardinals

Saturday, June 27

Solder glass to create your own cute cardinal creation. Copper foil pre-cut colorful glass and learn to solder it all to bring your vision to life. Take home your sweet cardinal creation at the end of the workshop. Best suited for ages 13 and up. All supplies are provided.

APPALACHIAN SUMMER
Sunday, August 23

Included in general park admission or membership, pre-registration is recommended

 

Celebrate the music, art, and culture of Appalachia with a day full of crafts, dancing, music, and artisans. Enjoy a lineup of traditional bluegrass and contemporary musicians inspired by Appalachian instruments and stylings. Meet banjo makers, weavers, and other artisans that continue traditions passed down from generation to generation.

LIBERMAN: THE ARTIST IN HIS STUDIO
Exhibition open August 21 through November 30

Reception: Friday, August 21, 5:30PM – 7:30PM

Included in general park admission, free for park members and FotoFocus pass holders

 

Celebrate and admire the works of Alexander Liberman in the galleries and on the grounds this fall. Liberman explored photography, painting, and sculpture in his career, and served as the editorial director for Condé Nast magazine. We will feature a number of sculptures and a photography exhibition used for his publication, The Artist in His Studio (1960). Pyramid Hill visitors best know Liberman for Abracadabra in the park's outdoor sculpture collection.

Fortified Hill earthworks at Pyramid Hill stands as a testament to the depth of time that Indigenous Peoples have lived in and stewarded this landscape.
